Zardari Family Outnumbers Sharif Family in Legislative Representation

The Zardari family, a prominent political dynasty in Pakistan, has recently surpassed the Sharif family in terms of the number of legislators within the same family. This shift in dynamics has been brought about by the election of Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, the youngest daughter of President Asif Ali Zardari and the late Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, to the National Assembly.

Aseefa’s election was uncontested, with all other candidates withdrawing their nominations. This victory has increased the Zardari family’s representation in the national and provincial assemblies to six members. The family’s political presence includes President Zardari, his son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, his brother-in-law Munawar Ali Talpur, and his sisters Faryal Talpur and Azra Pechuho.

The Sharif family, another influential political family in Pakistan, now stands second in terms of family representation in the assemblies. The Sharif family’s political presence includes Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, his elder brother Nawaz Sharif, his son Hamza Shehbaz Sharif, and his niece Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

Both the Zardari and Sharif families have had a substantial impact on Pakistani politics, often ruling the country for extended periods. Their influence has led to allegations of prioritizing family members during elections.

The Sharif family has been a dominant force in Pakistani politics. However, with Aseefa Bhutto Zardari’s recent election, the Zardari family has surpassed the Sharifs in terms of the number of family members serving as legislators.

While the Sharifs have four family members in the assemblies, the Zardaris now have six. This shift could potentially impact the political landscape of Pakistan, given the significant roles both families play in the country’s governance.

In recent developments, President Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have pledged to steer the country out of its current crises. Furthermore, President Zardari has had temporary official residences designated for him. These developments indicate the ongoing active roles both the Zardari and Sharif families continue to play in Pakistan’s political sphere.
