There is always a huge conservation of women’s rights in society. Are women’s rights fulfilled? Are there rights care of? Do they feel free and safe? Are they living a happy life in the society?
Even after educational expansion and development, women’s rights are not protected.
The role of women in our society is limited to housework, marital duties, and motherhood. All this is put in their mind in such a way that they consider it as the purpose of their life. The honor of the house is associated with women. These women are confined within the four walls of the house and are deprived of schools and madrassas for education and training. In our society, it is normal and easy to tarnish the honor of women. Living in society becomes difficult for them. Women are subjected to domestic violence and given no rights.
A woman cannot go out freely because she is not protected in the society. Day by day, cases of rape and femicide are increasing. Women are being subjected to arbitrary detention. Daily tasks that require leaving the house are becoming difficult to do; women are afraid every day, for their honor and life. The most surprising thing is that no strict action is taken against the perpetrators, encouraging similar behavioral patterns. When it comes to government laws, every constitution indeed promises to protect women and fulfill all kinds of rights. But these laws have not been fulfilled and women are still suffering oppression and violence.
In some areas of Pakistan, women are sold for a small amount of money, known as bride price. Such women cannot meet their family again and the man can treat her as he likes. He considers it his right to oppress such women. After that, nothing remains in a woman’s life except grief and trouble, and her whole life is ruined for a mere few bucks.
In some areas of Pakistan, women do not even have the right to marry out of choice and if she does, she is killed. No one is going to question the murder. Thousands of girls are killed every year in the name of honor in Pakistan. Not only this but if a parent marries their daughter, they have to pay a hefty dowry so that she can live with honor in her in-laws’ house without any problems. If a girl does not take dowry to her in-laws, she is ridiculed and humiliated and her life is made hell. Even in Pakistan, many divorces happen due to a lack of dowry. In short, the life of a girl in Pakistan is very complicated and full of difficulties.
The rights of women have been clarified in the Holy Qur'an, and our Prophet Muhammad has also ordered us to be lenient towards them. Despite being Muslims, we do not follow the teachings of Islam, which has granted women more rights than any other religion and has accorded them a high status.
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said in his last sermon;
“O people, it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women but. They also have right over you. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers.”
If examined in history, women have taken many steps for the development of the country and the nation and have stood by the side of men and fought the enemy vigorously. History is full of women like Fatima Ali Jinnah, Begum Rana Liaquat Ali Khan, Jahan Ara Shahnawaz, and Shaista Ikramullah.
If we want our country to be on the path of development with peace and tranquility, we must fulfill the rights of women. They should be allowed to live a life of freedom and fight for their rights. They should have the right to education and free life. It is very important for the development and prosperity of the country.
