Winning is in Shahzaib Rind’s DNA: A Journey from Balochistan to Global Martial Arts

Shahzaib Rind, a martial artist from Balochistan, Pakistan, has been making waves in the world of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Recently, he secured a government job and a lucrative cash reward from the government of Balochistan following his victory against Rana Singh in Dubai. This victory has not only brought him recognition but also highlighted his journey of perseverance amidst obstacles.

His journey began in the streets of Quetta, where his family recognized his natural talent for combat. Inspired by legendary fighters like Prince Naseem Hamed, Mike Tyson, and Muhammad Ali, Shahzaib was driven to pursue martial arts with dedication and passion.

Despite the lack of infrastructure and formal training facilities in Balochistan, Shahzaib did not let these challenges deter him. Instead, they served as stepping-stones towards his ultimate goal. He balanced the rigors of training with the demands of education, navigating the turbulent waters of financial constraints.

His quest for excellence led him to the United States, where he honed his skills and prepared himself for the challenges that awaited on the global stage. He trained under Asim Zaidi at the renowned Goat Shed gym in Miami, Florida. His rigorous preparation for the upcoming fights was intense, pushing the limits in every training session.

Shahzaib’s older brother played a massive role in his training journey. On his very first day in the gym, his brother made him fight with an older boy – a club champion. That boy gave him a tough time, even breaking his nose. But this experience did not deter Shahzaib; instead, it ignited a desire in him to improve.

Within a year, he had learned enough to match his rival in sparring, and he showed enough promise to work towards competing. His family supported him emotionally throughout his amateur career, even though they faced financial difficulties.

Despite his quick temper, Shahzaib learned to channel his emotions through the discipline of martial arts. He pursued academic endeavors alongside his training, earning a Bachelor of Science degree while maintaining a rigorous training schedule.

Shahzaib’s discovery of martial arts came through his elder brother, Balaj Masood, a skilled Wushu martial artist. Training at the Young Tigers Academy, Shahzaib’s dedication led him to become a National Champion and represent Pakistan internationally.

Facing financial constraints and a lack of government support, Shahzaib’s rise to prominence was marked by his self-training from YouTube videos and his family’s unwavering support. His journey was not without challenges, but his resolve never wavered.

His list of achievements is extensive and impressive. Shahzaib has been the National Champion in martial arts for seven consecutive years. His prowess in the sport also led him to become the Provincial champion from 2008 to 2016.

In 2016, Shahzaib’s hard work and dedication bore fruit when he won a Gold medal in the 3-Nations International Wushu Championship held in Lahore. The same year, he also won a Bronze medal in the West Asia Wushu Championship and another Bronze medal in the Pars Cup.

Shahzaib’s winning streak continued into 2017 when he became the Gold Medalist of All Pakistan Inter-University Wushu. He also won a Silver medal in the Pars Cup that year.

In 2019, Shahzaib made history by becoming the National Games Champion and winning a Silver medal in the South Asian Games in Nepal. His victories did not stop there. He also participated in professional kickboxing fights in Singapore in 2018 and 2020, and in Vietnam in 2019.

Shahzaib Rind’s training journey is a powerful reminder that with perseverance and determination, one can overcome any obstacle and achieve greatness. His story continues to inspire many aspiring martial artists in Pakistan and around the world.

As Shahzaib reflects on his journey and looks ahead to future plans, he remains committed to representing Pakistan on the international stage and inspiring others with his resilience, passion, and commitment to unity and excellence.

He has set his sights on even greater achievements. Now that he has made it onto the global stage of ONE Championship, his primary goals are to represent Pakistan well on the international stage, and to become a two-division World Champion in ONE Super Series. He continues to train rigorously, preparing himself for the challenges that lie ahead.
