Usman Khan: The First to Score Two Tons in a Single PSL Edition

In a thrilling match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) held at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Multan Sultans’ dynamic batter, Usman Khan, etched his name in the annals of PSL history. The right-handed batter, participating as a foreign player, delivered a power-packed performance against Islamabad United, leading his team to an impressive total of 228 runs.

Usman’s explosive batting in the last 10 overs was a sight to behold. He scored a staggering 100 runs off just 50 balls, including 15 fours and three sixes, finishing his innings with a remarkable strike rate of 200. This feat marked his second century in the ongoing PSL 9, making him the only player in PSL history to score two centuries in a single edition. His previous century was against Karachi Kings at the National Bank Stadium on March 3.

Born in Karachi, Usman now boasts three centuries in merely 14 PSL innings, equalling the record held by former Peshawar Zalmi star, Kamran Akmal, who achieved the same in 74 innings. The 28-year-old also holds the record for the fastest century in the league, a 36-ball ton against Quetta Gladiators in PSL 8.

The Sultans had a shaky start, managing only 58 runs in the powerplay at the loss of two wickets. However, the game’s momentum shifted when Mohammad Rizwan was dismissed. Usman, along with Johnson Charles, launched an onslaught on Islamabad’s bowlers, building a formidable 86-run partnership in just 50 balls.

Charles made a swift 18-ball 42 with six boundaries before departing, leaving the Sultans at 144/3 in 13.2 overs. Iftikhar Ahmed, who came to bat next, could only contribute 13 runs before falling victim to Naseem Shah. Despite these setbacks, Usman continued his aggressive batting, guiding Multan to a 228-run total.

It is worth noting that Multan Sultans have already secured their spot in the PSL 9 playoffs. However, Islamabad United’s qualification hinges on this match’s outcome and the result of Peshawar Zalmi’s upcoming game against Karachi Kings.
