Supermodel Sisters Bella and Gigi Hadid Pledge $1 Million to Aid Palestinian Relief Efforts

In a remarkable act of philanthropy, renowned supermodel sisters Bella and Gigi Hadid have pledged a combined donation of $1 million to support humanitarian efforts in Palestine. This generous contribution is aimed at aiding the children and families affected by the ongoing conflict in the region.

Born to a Palestinian American father, the Hadid sisters have always been vocal about their support for the Palestinian cause. Their father, Mohamed Anwar Hadid, is of Palestinian origin. The sisters’ deep-rooted connection to their heritage has often been reflected in their public statements and actions.

The donation will be equally distributed among four organizations: HEAL Palestine, Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF), World Central Kitchen (WCK), and United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). These organizations are known for their extensive work in providing humanitarian aid, including food and medical programs. They also assist displaced families and provide psychological services amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.

HEAL Palestine, an acronym for health, education, aid, and leadership, is a nonpolitical, nonprofit humanitarian group that works to provide every young Palestinian in Gaza a chance for a brighter future. PCRF, founded in 1991, provides free medical care to thousands of injured and ill children. José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen is a front-line organization that provides chef-prepared meals to communities impacted by natural disasters and crises like war, conflicts, and other tragedies. UNRWA USA National Committee is an independent nonprofit that supports humanitarian assistance for Palestine refugees.

The Hadid sisters’ donation comes at a critical time, as the conflict in the region has escalated following the Israel’s brutality on Oct. 7. The BBC reports that more than 36,000 people have been killed in Gaza since the conflict began.

In addition to their financial contribution, the Hadid sisters have used their platform to raise awareness about the Palestinian struggle. Bella Hadid recently made a statement during her trip to Cannes, where she wore a Keffiyeh dress, a traditional Arabic cloth associated with Palestinian culture. She described it as a "beautiful way to represent the history, labor of love, resilience, and, most importantly, the art of historic Palestinian embroidery".

Gigi Hadid, on the other hand, expressed her deep empathy and heartbreak for the Palestinian struggle and life under occupation. She wrote on Instagram, "My thoughts are with all those affected by this unjustifiable tragedy, and every day that innocent lives are taken by this conflict – too many of which are children. I have deep empathy and heartbreak for the Palestinian struggle and life under occupation, it’s a responsibility I hold daily".

The Hadid sisters’ donation and their public support for the Palestinian cause have been widely appreciated. Their actions serve as a reminder of the power of celebrity influence in bringing attention to global issues and inspiring others to contribute to worthy causes.
