Shahid Afridi Appointed as Ambassador for T20 World Cup 2024

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has recently announced the appointment of Shahid Afridi, the former all-rounder from Pakistan, as an ambassador for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. This prestigious tournament is set to commence on June 1, 2024, and will be co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies.

Afridi, fondly known as ‘Boom Boom Afridi’ for his explosive batting style, joins a star-studded list of ambassadors for the tournament, including Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, West Indian batsman Chris Gayle, and eight-time Olympic gold medallist sprinter Usain Bolt. This illustrious group will participate in various promotional activities leading up to the World Cup and provide expert insights throughout the event.

Afridi’s association with the T20 World Cup runs deep. He has participated in six editions of the tournament, two of which he captained. His most notable achievement was leading Pakistan to victory in the 2009 edition, where he was also named the Player of the Match in the final. His contributions to the sport and his popularity among fans make him an ideal choice for this role.

In a statement released by the ICC, Afridi expressed his excitement about his new role and the upcoming tournament. The T20 World Cup 2024 is set to be the biggest cricket carnival spectacle ever, with 55 matches to be played by 20 teams across nine venues. The opening fixture will see co-hosts USA taking on Canada at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas. The tournament will culminate with the final on June 29 in Barbados.
