Shaheen Shah Afridi Becomes World’s No. 1 ODI Bowler

Shaheen Afridi, the young Pakistani pacer, has made history by becoming the world’s No. 1 ODI bowler. This achievement comes after his stellar performance in the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023. Afridi has been in excellent form for Pakistan, taking 16 wickets in the tournament so far, tying with Australia’s spinner Adam Zampa for the most wickets.

In a recent match against Bangladesh, Afridi took three wickets, helping Pakistan secure a crucial victory. This performance not only kept Pakistan’s semi-final hopes alive but also catapulted Afridi to the top of the ODI bowler rankings.

Afridi’s rise to the top is even more impressive considering he is the fastest fast bowler to reach 100 ODI wickets, achieving this feat in just 51 matches. He surpassed Saqlain Mushtaq, who reached this milestone in 53 matches. This makes Afridi the fastest bowler from Pakistan to get 100 wickets.

While Afridi shines in the bowling department, his teammate Babar Azam continues to reign supreme in batting. Azam maintains his position as the world’s No. 1 ODI batsman. However, his lead at the top of the ODI batter rankings is down to just two rating points.

This is a proud moment for Pakistan cricket as it marks the first time that Afridi has held the No.1 ranking in any format. With Babar Azam holding on to the top spot on the batting front, Pakistan now has two players occupying the No. 1 position in both batting and bowling formats.

Shaheen Afridi’s journey to becoming a top-ranked bowler is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and exceptional talent. His performances have not only brought him individual accolades but have also significantly contributed to Pakistan’s success on the cricket field. As he continues to break records and set new ones, cricket fans around the world eagerly anticipate what he will achieve next.
