Revolutionizing Traditional Education System in Pakistan through Virtual Reality

Like many other developing countries, Pakistan faces challenges in providing quality education to all its citizens. According to a survey conducted by Gallup Pakistan, 89% of Pakistanis believe that the quality of education in the country is either “bad” or “very bad.” However, one startup aims to change that by revolutionizing education through XR technology.

XRStudyFlix is a virtual and augmented reality-based education provider that uses extended reality (XR) systems as its primary teaching medium. XR systems can use augmented reality (AR) to stack digital objects on top of real-world objects or simulate the 3D image of the physical world and teleport the person to the virtual world using virtual reality (VR). XRStudyFlix offers an end-to-end, customized, multicomponent software system specifically designed to address the needs of SSC and HSSC students and teachers.

The founder of the startup, who has a background in developing VR games, came up with the idea to use VR to teach science subjects to SSC and HSSC students after observing that students at that level are forced to take extra tuition and spend extra hours and money mainly to learn science subjects. This, to the founder, is unfair and unjust.

The mission of XR Study Flix is to teach science through deep immersion and intuition to develop an everlasting understanding and interest. The system is available for all schools and colleges that teach science nationwide. However, it is specifically marketed to high-end private schools due to its cost and the expertise required to utilize it.

The software system has two main facets. The first is VR-based software that runs on a dedicated server, tailor-made for the needs of SSC/HSSC students. Teachers will use this as the primary teaching medium. The second is an AR-based mobile application designed to teach general science concepts, considering that the curriculum may change over time. Students will use it as supplementary material.

One of the main advantages of XR-based education is that it provides students with an engaging and interactive learning experience. Traditional learning methods can be boring and passive, making it difficult for students to retain information. However, XR technology allows students to interact with their environment and learn through experimentation and exploration. This approach has been shown to improve learning outcomes and increase student engagement.

A study conducted by PwC found that VR-based learning can improve student performance by up to 35%.

XR Study Flix is operating from and inside Islamabad, but expansions to other cities of Pakistan are planned for the future. By offering an immersive and interactive learning experience, XR Study Flix has the potential to revolutionize education in Pakistan and provide equal access to quality education for all students.
