Rain-Hit Pak-India Match Pushed to Reserve Day in Colombo

In the highly anticipated Super Four match of the Asia Cup, persistent rain in Colombo pushed the electrifying encounter between cricketing giants, Pakistan and India, to its reserve day on Monday.

India, after being put to bat first by Pakistan, started strong, posting 147 for 2 in just 24.1 overs. The dynamic duo of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill ignited the innings with a spectacular 121-run partnership, scoring at an impressive run rate of 7.76. Sharma, the Indian skipper, dazzled with a 49-ball 56 before he was dismissed.

His opening partner, Gill, shortly followed him back, having made a significant 58. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were anchoring the innings when the skies opened, bringing the game to a standstill.

It is worth noting that this is not the first rain hurdle for these teams in this edition of the Asia Cup. Their previous head-to-head at the Pallekele Cricket Stadium also succumbed to weather conditions, ending without a result.

A silver lining for fans and organizers alike is the provision of a reserve day for this pivotal game – a rarity in the tournament format with only the final match enjoying a similar provision.

The cricket board has confirmed that the match will continue from the exact point it was paused on September 11. Fans have been advised to retain their tickets, as they'll be valid for entry on the reserve day.

Playing XI for Both Teams:

Pakistan: Babar Azam (c), Shadab Khan (vc), Mohammad Rizwan, Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Agha Salman, Iftikhar Ahmed, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Faheem Ashraf

India: Rohit Sharma (c), Hardik Pandya (vc), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj

Weather Update:

Although the day in Colombo began with a sun-kissed morning, rain forecasts hinted at the likelihood of an interrupted game. Predictions showed:

  • 1:30 pm: 100% rain
  • 3:30 pm: 100% rain
  • 5:30 pm: 90% rain

And unfortunately, these forecasts became the reality, thus compelling the game to shift to its reserve day.
