PTI Issues Show-Cause Notice to Sher Afzal Marwat Over Controversial Remarks

In a recent development within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the party has issued a show-cause notice to one of its prominent members, Sher Afzal Marwat. This action comes in response to Marwat’s controversial remarks about the former chairman of the party, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.

Marwat’s comments, which have stirred controversy within the party ranks, were made just a day after Gohar announced that the PTI’s next chairman nominee is Barrister Ali Zafar. The party’s internal elections are scheduled to take place on March 3.

In his statement, Marwat claimed that Barrister Gohar Khan was “removed” as the chairman of the former ruling party due to an “unsatisfactory” performance. He further elaborated on his claim during a conversation with a private news channel, stating that “Incompetence and poor performance are the reasons behind Gohar’s removal as chairman. Barrister Gohar is a gentleman but his performance was not satisfactory”.

Responding to a question, the PTI leader said that Gohar failed to meet the workers’ expectations4. He added, “To run a party office, one has to be active all the time, but this did not happen”. Marwat also criticized the party leadership’s approach following the election results, stating that Gohar should have led the party after the polls, but he failed.

The PTI, in its show-cause notice, asked Marwat to submit an apology letter within two days. The party leadership has stressed the importance of maintaining unity and discipline within its ranks, especially in the lead-up to crucial intra-party elections. The notice further stated that action would be taken as per party policy in case of a non-satisfactory answer.

The party’s statement read, "A tense situation has arisen due to your statement", indicating the gravity of the situation within the party following Marwat’s remarks. This incident has brought to light the internal conflicts within the PTI, casting a shadow over the upcoming intra-party elections.

The PTI’s stern action against Marwat underscores the party’s commitment to maintaining discipline and unity among its members. It also serves as a reminder of the challenges that political parties face in managing internal dynamics while striving to meet the expectations of their members and supporters.
