PSL 9: Foreign Players Registration Begins, Draft in December

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the opening of the registration window for foreign players who want to participate in the ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The tournament is tentatively scheduled to run from February 8 to March 24, 2024.

According to a PCB press release, the category renewals of the local players will also be finalised and published soon. After that, the trade and retention window will be opened for the franchises to finalise their squads. The pick order for the player draft will also be shared once the trade and retention window is open.

The PSL 9 Player Draft is expected to take place in mid-December, after the completion of the National T20 Cup. The final of the domestic tournament will be played on December 10 in Karachi.

The previous season of PSL was won by Lahore Qalandars, who defeated Multan Sultans in the final at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. It was their second consecutive title in the league. Islamabad United finished third, while Peshawar Zalmi was fourth. Karachi Kings and Quetta Gladiators ended up at the bottom of the table.

The upcoming season will feature six teams, as no new team will be added. The PCB will also explore opportunities for women’s cricket, such as a women’s league or exhibition matches during PSL. The board will also work closely with the franchises to look for alternative venues as a part of contingency planning.

The PCB has assured that PSL will not be shifted to Dubai or any other location due to elections or any other reason. All the franchises have agreed to keep the league in Pakistan. If the elections pose any threat to the matches, the schedule of PSL will be adjusted accordingly.
