PCB to Select Top Performers from PSL 9 for Training Camp

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced plans to select the top performers from the recently concluded Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 9 for an upcoming fitness and training camp. This decision was made during a meeting held at the PCB headquarters in Lahore, presided over by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

The meeting was attended by several key figures, including Chief Selector Wahab Riaz, PCB Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer, and the director of international cricket. The primary agenda was to discuss the selection of players for the training camp, which is being organized ahead of the New Zealand tour to Pakistan in April.

New Zealand is scheduled to play a five-match T20I series in Pakistan, starting on April 18. This series is a crucial part of both teams’ preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup, which is set to commence in June.

During the meeting, Naqvi emphasized the importance of merit-based selection and insisted that even his own recommendations should not influence the selection process. He expressed confidence that players selected on the basis of their performance and merit have the potential to deliver good results.

The Chief Selector presented a report detailing the outstanding performances of various players during PSL Season 9. Following the conclusion of the PSL, where Islamabad United emerged as champions after defeating Multan Sultans, several players were recognized for their exceptional performances.

Muhammad Irfan Khan was awarded the ‘Emerging Player of the Tournament’, while Saim Ayub was named the ‘All-Rounder of the Tournament’. Azam Khan received the ‘Wicketkeeper of the Tournament’ award, and Usama Mir was recognized as the ‘Bowler of the Tournament’. Usman Khan was named the ‘Batter of the Tournament’, and Shadab Khan was honored as the ‘Player of the Tournament’.

Shadab Khan, in addition to his player of the tournament accolade, was also lauded for his excellent captaincy skills. Babar Azam, the skipper of Peshawar Zalmi, was commended for his consistent performance throughout the league.
