Pakistan to Benefit from Arthur’s Experience with Sri Lanka in World Cup

Pakistan’s cricket coach, Mickey Arthur, has a unique advantage going into the upcoming World Cup clash against Sri Lanka. Having spent two years as the head coach of the Sri Lankan team, Arthur has an intimate understanding of their strengths and weaknesses. This knowledge could prove invaluable as Pakistan prepares to face what Arthur describes as a “dangerous side” in the tournament.

Arthur’s tenure with the Sri Lankan team spanned from December 2019 to November 2021. During this time, he had the opportunity to closely observe and develop the players, gaining insights that he now brings to his role as Pakistan’s coach. “Yeah, I know their strengths and weaknesses so we will have plans put in place for all of them,” said Arthur.

Pakistan opened their World Cup campaign with a victory against the Netherlands, despite a shaky start. The team recovered from a top-order failure, posting a challenging score of 286 thanks to half-centuries from Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan. The Netherlands were then bowled out for 205 in 41 overs.

Arthur admitted that while it wasn’t a great performance, he was pleased with the win and commended his players for stepping up when it mattered. Looking ahead to Tuesday’s match against Sri Lanka, Arthur is likely to keep the same line-up, expressing confidence in opener Fakhar Zaman despite his recent form.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will be looking to bounce back after a tough loss against South Africa in their opening game. Despite South Africa posting a record-shattering score of 428-5, Sri Lanka showed resilience with a battling reply.

Sri Lanka will also draw confidence from their recent two-wicket win against Pakistan last month that propelled them to the Asia Cup final in Colombo. However, they face challenges with the loss of three frontline bowlers due to injury.

As both teams prepare for their upcoming clash, it promises to be an exciting match. With Arthur’s inside knowledge of Sri Lanka and both teams’ recent performances, cricket fans around the world are eagerly anticipating this World Cup showdown.
