Pakistan Produces More than 10 Million Mobiles in Eight Months of 2023

Pakistan has achieved a significant milestone in its mobile phone manufacturing industry as it produced 10.87 million units in the first eight months of 2023, according to the data released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). This is more than 10 times the number of imported units, which stood at 0.84 million in the same period.

The impressive growth of the local mobile phone industry is attributed to the government's policies and incentives that have encouraged investment and innovation in this sector. The PTA has issued licenses to 33 local manufacturers, who have set up assembly plants across the country. These plants have created thousands of direct and indirect jobs and contributed to the national exchequer.

The local mobile phone industry has also benefited from the rising demand for smartphones in Pakistan, which has a large and young population. According to the PTA, there were 178 million mobile phone subscribers in Pakistan as of August 2023, out of which 93 million were using 3G-4G services. Pakistan is also preparing to launch 5G services by December 2022, which will further boost the demand for high-end devices.

The local mobile phone manufacturers have been offering a wide range of products to cater to different segments of the market. They have been competing with international brands on quality, features, design, and price. Some of the popular local brands include Infinix, Tecno, Vivo, Realme, and Oppo.

The PTA has expressed its satisfaction over the performance of the local mobile phone industry and has vowed to continue its support and facilitation for its development. The PTA has also urged the consumers to buy locally manufactured mobile phones, which are compliant with the standards and regulations of the authority. The PTA has also launched a device identification system to curb the smuggling and illegal use of mobile phones in Pakistan.
