Naseem Shah to Don Islamabad United Colours in PSL 9 After Swap Deal

Islamabad United has strengthened its fast-bowling department by acquiring the services of Naseem Shah, the young and fiery pacer, for the ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Naseem Shah, who was previously associated with Quetta Gladiators, will now represent the capital city franchise in the upcoming season of the premier T20 league.

The swap deal, which was finalized between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators, saw two emerging players from Islamabad’s squad moving to Quetta. Mohammad Wasim Jr. and Abrar Ahmed, both promising talents, will now wear the purple and gold colours of the Gladiators.

The exchange signifies a strategic reshuffle for both franchises, as they look to bolster their squads ahead of the PSL 9 draft. Islamabad United parted ways with Wasim Jr. and Ahmed to welcome Naseem Shah, who has already made a mark in international cricket with his pace and wicket-taking ability.

Naseem Shah, who made his Test debut at the age of 16, has taken 51 wickets in 17 Tests and 32 wickets in 14 ODIs for Pakistan. He also has 26 wickets in 29 PSL matches to his name.

The inclusion of Naseem Shah is expected to add a dynamic edge to Islamabad United’s bowling attack, which already boasts of Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, and Mohammad Musa.

On the other hand, Quetta Gladiators will hope that Mohammad Wasim Jr. and Abrar Ahmed will make a significant impact in the tournament. Wasim Jr. is a right-arm fast bowler who has played 27 T20Is for Pakistan, while Abrar Ahmed is a left-arm spinner who has featured in 6 Test and 21 First-class matches.

Islamabad United is one of the most successful franchises in the history of PSL, having won the title twice. United will be aiming to lift the trophy for the third time in PSL 9, which is scheduled to start in February 2024.
