MNA Hameed Hussain has taken a strong stand on the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Kurram (NA-37), writing to both the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Human Rights and the Speaker of the National Assembly. For over three months, the Tall-Parachinar Road has been blocked, severing the region’s access to essential supplies such as food, medicine, and other critical resources. Tragically, this blockade has led to the death of over 200 children, with more lives at risk as medical care remains out of reach.
In his letters, MNA Hussain emphasized that the blockade is a severe violation of fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution of Pakistan, including the right to life, dignity, and freedom of movement. He also highlighted the country’s international obligations under humanitarian laws such as the Geneva Conventions and the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (ICESCR).
MNA Hussain has called for immediate action, urging the Standing Committee on Human Rights to use its authority to address the issue and the Speaker to prioritize an urgent discussion in the National Assembly. He has demanded the reopening of the Tall-Parachinar Road and the restoration of weekly PIA flights to Parachinar, which would provide much-needed relief to the people of Kurram.
In his public statement, MNA Hussain expressed his deep frustration with the government’s inaction, stating, “No country would tolerate the abandonment of a population of over 8 lakh even for a single day. Yet, my people have been stranded for months, suffering in isolation.” He has called on the government to fulfill its duty to its citizens and take swift action to end this crisis.
As the situation in Kurram continues to worsen, MNA Hameed Hussain’s calls for urgent intervention are a reminder of the state’s responsibility to protect its citizens, especially in times of crisis.
