Mickey Arthur Labels Pakistan’s Bowling as ‘best in the world’

Pakistan team director Mickey Arthur has expressed his confidence and excitement about his side’s prospects in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

Speaking to the media, Arthur praised Pakistan’s bowling attack as “the best in the world” and dismissed the notion that the team’s batting is reliant on captain Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan.

He also revealed that the playing XI for the first match against the Netherlands will be announced at the toss, unlike in the Asia Cup where it was declared a day before.

Arthur said that Pakistan has made significant progress since the 2019 World Cup, where they narrowly missed out on the semi-finals. He said that the same squad has gained more experience and has the best win-loss ratio in ODIs in the last four years.

He also emphasised that Pakistan will play their own brand of cricket, which he termed as “the Pakistan way”. He said that this style of play will help them win the World Cup.

Arthur also backed vice-captain Shadab Khan, who has been under scrutiny for his poor form. He said that Shadab is the best all-rounder in the team and hoped that he will regain his form soon.

Looking ahead to the much-awaited clash with India, Arthur acknowledged the pressure and intensity of such a game. He said that India is a good team, but Pakistan is also ready for the challenge. He hoped that Pakistan will win their first two matches against the Netherlands and Afghanistan before facing India.

Arthur also appreciated the warm welcome and support that Pakistan has received from the Indian fans. He said that the fans are eager to see Babar, Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi and other Pakistani stars in action.

Pakistan will take on the Netherlands in their opening match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad tomorrow.
