In Gaza, the living bleed.
In Tel Aviv, the skin heals.
But no one will say whose skin it is.
Israel boasts the largest skin bank in the world — a scientific feat often praised as a humanitarian breakthrough. But as Gaza burns and bodies vanish beneath rubble and bureaucracy, a question rises like smoke from the ruins:
Who donated the skin? Who gave consent? And who had no say at all?
These aren’t abstract questions. They are grounded in firsthand accounts, open wounds, missing children, bombed hospitals, and a violent history of unchecked medical and military collaboration.
A Cold Facility in a Hot War
Inside the Israel National Skin Bank (INSB) — a high-tech cryogenic center — human skin is preserved to treat burn victims. Founded in 1986 by the Israeli Ministry of Health and the IDF Medical Corps, this is not just a medical facility. It is a project born from — and maintained by — the same military that bombs Gaza’s hospitals.
It’s praised for healing.
But Palestinians ask: healing who? From what? At what cost?
Gaza: A Landscape of Ruin
Since October 7, 2023, Israel’s war on Gaza has left devastation without precedent:
- 67,880 Palestinians killed or missing
- 19,000 children and 12,500 women were among the dead
- 2 million displaced
- 88% of Gaza’s land destroyed
- $62 billion in damages
- 38 hospitals destroyed, 96 clinics bombed
- 9,500 bodies still under rubble
These aren’t numbers. These are sons, mothers, infants, teachers, and aid workers. And among them — missing bodies that never return. Some are found without skin. Without eyes. Without explanation.
Meanwhile, Israel’s skin bank is thriving.

Stories like this echo across Gaza and the West Bank. Bodies returned with surgical incisions. Others never returned at all. Some are buried in numbered graves, others are stolen from cemeteries.
According to Gaza’s Government Media Office:
- 2,420 bodies exhumed by Israeli forces
- 7 mass graves found inside hospitals
- Thousands of corpses remain missing
And through it all, the Israel National Skin Bank keeps operating — unseen, unaudited, unanswered.
A History of Harvesting
In 2009, Dr. Yehuda Hiss, Israel’s top forensic pathologist, admitted that his team harvested skin, corneas, bones, and heart valves — without family consent.

These were not isolated incidents. They involved Palestinians, foreign workers, tourists — anyone deemed “available.” The Israeli Health Ministry confirmed unauthorized removals but dismissed them as “historic.”
But:
- No names were released
- No reparations paid
- No INSB audit was ever published
If the practice stopped, where is the proof? If consent now exists, where are the records?
Science Without Consent Is Not Innovation
Palestinians do not benefit from Israel’s skin bank.
They:
- Die without access to burn treatment
- Watch their hospitals bombed and their doctors arrested
- Perform surgeries without anesthesia
- Bury children who died of cold or starvation in camps
As of mid-2025:
- 1,590 medical workers killed
- 144 ambulances destroyed
- 139,000 injuries reported
- 4,700 amputations
- 68 children died of hunger
- 17 children froze to death in displacement camps
This is not just a health disparity.
This is biological apartheid — a system where one population harvests from another, while denying them even the dignity of burial.
The Occupation Doesn’t End at Death
International law is clear:
- The Fourth Geneva Convention protects the bodies of the dead
- The Istanbul Declaration condemns tissue removal without consent
Yet:
- Bodies are withheld
- Families are denied postmortems
- Cemeteries are bombed and looted
- International observers are blocked

Palestinian Skin in Israeli Tanks?
Let’s ask the unthinkable out loud:
Could the skin of Palestinian martyrs — children killed in airstrikes, civilians buried in mass graves — be part of Israel’s celebrated skin supply?
We don’t know.
And that is the scandal.
No transparency.
No audit.
No ethical oversight.
No accountability.
Just silence.
This Is Not Just About Medicine. It’s About Power.
Israel frames the INSB as a triumph of medical science. But science without ethics is not progress — it’s theft.
This is the logic of colonialism:
- Use the land.
- Use the water.
- Use the labor.
- And when even life is taken, use the body.
In Gaza, the living are bombed.
In Tel Aviv, the wounded are treated.
In between lies the unspoken question: Whose skin is being used?
Final Thought: Healing or Harvesting?
Until the INSB opens its records to international review…
Until the bodies are returned…
Until Gaza’s dead are allowed to rest without being treated as spare parts…
This “medical marvel” will remain a moral crime — stitched not with compassion, but with complicity.
