Islamabad United’s Victory Lap with Palestine Flag Captures Hearts

In an act of solidarity that resonated with cricket fans worldwide, Islamabad United, the champions of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season nine, celebrated their victory by waving the Palestine flag. The triumphant team members, including Hunain Shah, Shadab Khan, and Imad Wasim, took a victory lap around the National Bank Stadium in Karachi, expressing their support for the Palestinian people.

This gesture was particularly poignant given the ongoing conflict in Palestine, where the people have been enduring hardships since the Hamas attack on October 7. The Islamabad team’s celebration was a powerful statement of unity with the Palestinians, who have been under Israeli oppression.

The thrilling final match saw Islamabad United clinch their third PSL title, having previously won in 2016 and 2018. This victory cements their status as the most successful team in the history of the tournament.

The final match was a nail-biter, with the outcome hanging in the balance until the very last ball. With just one run needed to secure the win, young player Hunain Shah stepped up to the plate. He skillfully identified a gap at point and hit the ball for four, securing the victory for Islamabad United.

Despite losing three wickets in the powerplay, Islamabad United managed to regain control of the match thanks to a crucial 47-run partnership between experienced batter Martin Guptill and explosive batter Azam Khan. However, a misunderstanding led to Guptill being run out after scoring 50 runs on 32 balls.

Down the order, after Azam Khan was dismissed, Imad Wasim and Naseem Shah made valuable contributions, scoring 19 and 17 runs respectively. Their efforts helped Islamabad United maintain their momentum and ultimately secure the win.

In the first innings, the Multan Sultans had a shaky start but managed to recover thanks to a solid partnership between Mohammad Rizwan and Usman Khan. Despite losing wickets, they managed to post a competitive total, thanks to Iftikhar’s contribution towards the end.
