Imran Khan’s Family Members Will Not Participate in Elections

Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has confirmed that neither she nor any other family members, including Imran Khan’s wife, will be contesting in the upcoming general elections scheduled for February 8, 2024.

In a recent interaction with journalists outside the Islamabad High Court, Aleema Khan made it clear that she has no intentions of participating in the electoral race. She stated, "I will not contest the election, even if Imran Khan asks me, I will not participate in the election.".

When asked about the possibility of other family members or Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, participating in the elections, Aleema clarified that none of them would be contesting. She emphasized that their involvement in politics is limited to supporting Imran Khan in his legal cases.

Aleema Khan also expressed her concerns about the treatment of her brother, comparing his situation to that of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. She voiced her apprehensions about the ongoing cipher case against Imran Khan, fearing that he might be sentenced to death by December 30.

She criticized Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif, accusing him of manipulating the political landscape to his advantage. She alleged that Sharif had appointed his own umpires and was preventing other players from entering the field.

Aleema Khan expressed her disappointment with the current state of affairs, stating, “Our hope for justice is from Allah and justice should also be expected from the Supreme Court, but what is happening is in front of everyone.” Despite her frustrations, she affirmed her faith in divine justice.

This announcement comes at a time when Imran Khan’s political future is uncertain. He was recently granted bail by the Supreme Court in the cipher case. However, his eligibility to contest in the upcoming elections remains a topic of debate due to his conviction in a corruption case.

Despite facing numerous challenges, Imran Khan continues to be a significant figure in Pakistani politics, with his charisma and dedication earning him a steadfast following. His party, PTI, remains a key player in the political field. As Pakistan prepares for the upcoming general elections, the decision by Imran Khan’s family members not to participate marks a pivotal moment in the nation’s political scene. The impact of this decision on the electoral dynamics and PTI’s future is yet to be seen.
