Historic Victory for USA Over Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2024 Super Over

Pakistan stunned in a nail-biting Super Over as the USA cricket team clinches an unprecedented victory at the T20 World Cup 2024. The match, which took place at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, Texas, saw the USA team level the score of 159 runs set by Pakistan, leading to a Super Over that ultimately decided the match.

Pakistan, led by captain Babar Azam, batted first and set a target of 160 runs. However, the USA team managed to match this score, ending their innings at 159-3. The match then proceeded to a Super Over, where Pakistan’s Mohammad Amir took the ball. The USA concluded their innings with 18-1, and in response, Pakistan could only manage 13-1, resulting in a five-run victory for the USA.

The USA team displayed a cautious yet effective strategy throughout the match. Captain Monank Patel led from the front, scoring 50 runs before being dismissed by Mohammad Amir. The USA needed 21 runs from the last 12 balls, and despite an exceptional over from Amir that conceded only six runs, the USA managed to level the scores in the final over.

Haris Rauf bowled the last over for Pakistan, but things did not go as planned for the right-arm seamer. He was hit for a six on his fourth ball, and with five runs required off the last ball, Nitish Kumar scored a four to level the scores.

For Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi went wicketless, while Amir, Naseem Shah, and Haris managed to take one wicket each. Earlier in Pakistan’s innings, the USA had a brilliant start with the ball, dismissing the Pakistani top-order — Mohammad Rizwan, Usman Khan, and Fakhar Zaman — for just 26 runs.

However, after losing three wickets, skipper Babar Azam and Shadab Khan played cautiously and put Pakistan back in the game. A 72-run partnership between Babar and Shadab helped Pakistan regain control, but Shadab was dismissed after scoring 40 runs on 25 balls. Right after Shadab’s dismissal, wicketkeeper batter Azam Khan got out on a golden duck, and the wickets continued to fall. Babar Azam scored 44 off 43, while Iftikhar Ahmed departed after scoring 18 runs.

Shaheen Afridi (23 off 16 balls) provided crucial runs to Pakistan down the order and helped them conclude their innings at 159-7 in the allocated overs.

In the post-match press conference, USA captain Monank Patel expressed his delight at the team’s monumental achievement. He praised the team’s performance, stating that they played tremendous cricket to put Pakistan under pressure. Patel also acknowledged that it was a big day for his team, as defeating the Green Shirts in the World Cup was a significant accomplishment.

On the other hand, Pakistan captain Babar Azam acknowledged the team’s shortcomings in their first match of the T20 World Cup 2024. He emphasized the need for improvement in the middle order and bowling, saying, “Our score was adequate for this pitch, but we need to enhance our bowling.” He also highlighted that the bowlers didn’t perform well in the first six overs and stressed the importance of improving for upcoming matches.
