Gaza Plunged into Darkness: Israeli Attacks Intensify Amid Total Blackout

The situation in Gaza has escalated dramatically, with the region experiencing a total blackout as Israeli forces intensify their attacks. The Israeli Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, stated that they have attacked “above the ground and underground, terror operatives of all ranks, everywhere.” Despite no clear signs of a full-scale ground invasion yet, Israel is instructing Gaza’s 2.3 million residents to move away from the north, where it alleges Hamas is hiding under civilian buildings.

The blackout has resulted in Gaza’s besieged population having minimal communication with the outside world since Israeli jets dropped more bombs. The Palestinian Red Crescent attributes this to Israel’s actions. This has led to a humanitarian crisis for Gazans who are under a total Israeli blockade. Health authorities in Gaza report that 7,700 Palestinians have been killed since Israel’s bombardment began.

The World Health Organization’s head, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, expressed concern that the blackout is hindering ambulances and patient evacuations and denying people safe shelter. Aid agencies are struggling to contact their staff in Gaza. William Schomburg from the International Committees of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in Gaza managed to send out an audio message detailing the dire situation.

Elon Musk has offered assistance from his Starlink satellite network to support communications in Gaza for internationally recognized aid organizations. However, the situation remains dire with no internet, network service, fuel for transportation, or electricity.

In response to these events, Pakistan has called for an immediate end to the war and killings in Gaza at the United Nations General Assembly.
