Freelancers to Benefit from Zero-Interest Loans and E-Working Centres

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has launched a groundbreaking initiative to empower freelancers in the IT sector. The initiative will offer interest-free loans of Rs100,000 to each freelancer to establish their own e-working centre. The e-working centres will provide a dedicated and equipped workspace for freelancers, enhancing their productivity and creativity.

The initiative aims to address the challenges faced by many freelancers, such as lack of essential resources like computers and workspaces. According to an official of the IT ministry, the government has allocated Rs50 billion for establishing private-sector co-working spaces, benefiting half a million freelancers nationwide.

The official said that the initiative will not only provide necessary infrastructure but also create an ecosystem fostering innovation and growth. He added that with the support of interest-free loans, each freelancer could potentially earn up to $30,000 annually and make a significant and direct contribution to the national economy.

The initiative is part of the government’s vision to promote the IT sector and the digital economy in Pakistan. The official expressed optimism that the initiative will position Pakistan as a hub of independent professionals and pave the way for sustained economic growth.

The freelancers who want to avail the interest-free loans and e-working centres need to register with the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB). The registered freelancers will also enjoy other benefits, such as tax holiday, subsidized training, certifications, office space at Software Technology Parks, and access to international marketing and matchmaking opportunities.

The initiative is expected to generate thousands of new jobs for freelancers in different sectors and create a favorable business environment for them. The initiative will also help the country to attract a reasonable chunk from global spending on outsourcing and freelancing services.
