Federal Health Minister Launches “Meera Sehat Card” Mobile App

In a significant move towards digitalization in healthcare, Caretaker Federal Minister for Health, Dr. Nadeem Jan, launched the health card mobile app, "Meera Sehat Card". The app is now available on both the Android Play Store and Apple App Store.

Currently, the “Meera Sehat Card” is accessible to permanent resident families (as per NADRA records) of Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and District Tharparkar (Sindh). However, Dr. Jan announced that the app will soon be available for all citizens of Pakistan.

The “Meera Sehat Card” app provides a comprehensive list of family members, empowering families to manage their health needs effectively. It also provides a record of effective medical treatment history.

The app ensures that medical caregivers have access to accurate information, and citizens will have access to a transparent list of available treatments through the app.

Dr. Jan highlighted that the government has formulated an integrated strategy to ensure the provision of modern facilities in the health sector. He added that reforms are being made to improve the health sector.

He also shared that the government is actively working on bringing innovation to the health insurance scheme. The goal is to develop a universal health insurance scheme, which will be designed after detailed consultations with the provinces.

In addition, the government plans to include Outpatient Department (OPD) services in the health insurance scheme. This inclusion aims to provide free services to the most economically disadvantaged, while those who can afford it will be asked to make co-payments. However, Dr. Jan clarified that these contributions will be kept modest.

Furthermore, Dr. Jan announced that Pakistan will host a two-day global health security summit on December 1. The summit aims to foster a collective response to the ongoing pandemic.
