COAS Asim Munir Awards Medals to NUST Graduates

The National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) kicked off its annual convocation week at its main campus in Islamabad on Monday, October 23, 2023. The convocation week will see more than 3500 graduates from all NUST Schools receive their degrees in seven core disciplines.

The inaugural “Master Convocation Ceremony” was graced by the Chairman NUST Board of Governors, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), as the chief guest. He conferred medals upon the distinction holders and congratulated them on their academic excellence.

General Asim Munir, who assumed the charge as the 11th COAS of the Pakistan Army on November 29, 2022, is the first army chief in the history of Pakistan who is a ‘Hafiz-e-Quran’. He belongs to a well-known religious family of Rawalpindi and memorised the Holy Quran at a seminary in his hometown. He is also the recipient of the Sword of Honour from the 17th course of the Officers Training School in Mangla and the Hilal-i-Imtiaz award.

While addressing the graduates, their parents and faculty, COAS Munir extended his heartiest felicitations and commended NUST for developing a conducive ecosystem for teaching and learning. He said that NUST nurtures brilliant minds who are fully poised to serve the nation in various fields.

He emphasised that education is not an option but a necessity and that today marks the beginning of a new chapter in the lives of the graduates. He said that this new chapter heralds a significant change that demands greater responsibility from them.

He urged them to figure out and analyse the challenges facing the country and put their intellectual resourcefulness to find their solutions. He also advised them to uphold the values of honesty, integrity and professionalism in their careers.

He expressed his confidence that NUST graduates will continue to make their alma mater proud by contributing positively to the national development and security. He also appreciated the efforts of NUST faculty and staff for maintaining high standards of education and research.

Earlier upon arrival at NUST, COAS Munir was received by Rector NUST Lieutenant General Naweed Zaman (Retd), HI (M), who briefed him about the academic and research activities of the university. He also apprised him of the ongoing and future projects of NUST.

The rector thanked COAS Munir for his patronage and support to NUST and said that his presence at the convocation was a source of inspiration for the graduates. He also highlighted the achievements of NUST in national and international rankings and accreditations.

He said that NUST is committed to producing leaders who can make a difference in their respective fields and society. He also acknowledged the role of parents and sponsors in facilitating the education of NUST students.

The convocation week will continue till October 31, 2023, with different ceremonies for bachelor’s, master’s and PhD students from various disciplines. The convocation week is a celebration of academic excellence and a recognition of hard work and dedication of NUST graduates.
