Babar Azam Surpasses Chris Gayle, Becomes Fastest to 10,000 T20 Runs

Pakistan’s star batter and Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam etched his name in the history books by becoming the fastest player to score 10,000 runs in T20 cricket. He achieved this remarkable feat in the sixth match of the Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) ninth edition at Qaddafi Stadium against Karachi Kings.

Babar, who is widely regarded as one of the best batters in the world, reached the milestone in his 271st innings, breaking the previous record held by West Indies legend Chris Gayle, who took 285 innings to score 10,000 T20 runs. Babar also became the second Pakistani player to join the elite club of 10,000 T20 runs, after veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik, who was playing for the opposite team.

Babar, who made his international debut in 2015, has been consistently scoring runs in all formats of the game. He is currently ranked number one in the ICC T20I rankings, number two in the ODI rankings, and number five in the Test rankings. He has also been leading Pakistan in all three formats since last year.

Babar is the 13th player in the world to score 10,000 T20 runs, and the fourth Asian player to do so, after India’s Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, and Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik. Other prominent names in the list include David Warner, Aaron Finch, Jos Buttler, Alex Hales, and Kieron Pollard.

Babar’s record-breaking feat has been widely praised by the cricket fraternity, as well as his fans and admirers. Many have hailed him as the best batter of his generation, and a potential legend of the game. Babar, however, has remained humble and focused, and has credited his teammates and coaches for his success. He has also expressed his desire to win more matches and trophies for Pakistan, and to inspire the next generation of cricketers.
