Babar Azam Stands with Palestine, Shares Heartbreaking Picture on X

Pakistan’s star batsman Babar Azam has joined the chorus of voices condemning the Israeli aggression on Gaza, which has killed thousands of innocent civilians, including children.

In a post on his X account, the former captain of the national team shared a poignant picture of a young girl holding a Palestinian flag and a doll. He also wrote a verse of poetry in Urdu, which translates to: “It is time to pray, O Lord, have mercy on the oppressed.”

Azam is not the only Pakistani cricketer who has shown support for the Palestinian cause. Last month, Mohammad Rizwan dedicated his match-winning century against Sri Lanka in the ICC World Cup 2023 to the people of Gaza. He tweeted: "This was for our brothers and sisters in Gaza. Happy to contribute in the win. Credits to the whole team and especially Abdullah Shafique and Hassan Ali for making it easier."

However, Rizwan was reportedly asked by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to delete his tweet, as it might have violated the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) code of conduct. A PCB spokesperson said that the matter was related to the ICC and the PCB’s legal department.

The Israeli onslaught on Gaza has entered its 42nd day, with no signs of a ceasefire. According to the latest reports, nearly 12,000 Palestinians have been killed, including about 5,000 children. The Israeli forces have targeted residential areas, hospitals, schools, and media offices, causing widespread destruction and displacement.

In the past two days, 24 patients have died at Al Shifa hospital, the largest medical facility in Gaza, due to power cuts and Israeli raids. The Israeli troops have also invaded northern Gaza, cutting off the strip from the rest of the world.

The international community has condemned the Israeli aggression and called for an immediate end to the violence. Several countries, including Pakistan, have expressed solidarity with the Palestinians and demanded their right to self-determination.
