Babar Azam Makes History with Third ICC Men’s Player of the Month Award

Pakistan cricket captain and batting sensation, Babar Azam, has marked his name in cricketing history once again, securing the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for August 2023.

This remarkable achievement marks the third time that Babar has claimed this coveted title, solidifying his status as one of the most outstanding cricketers globally.

Babar Azam's cricketing prowess shone brilliantly throughout the month of August, garnering immense attention and admiration. In a field that included fierce competitors like his teammate Shadab Khan and West Indies' formidable batsman Nicholas Pooran, Babar stood tall, showcasing his unparalleled skills and determination.

A highlight of his exceptional performance was witnessed during the gripping Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match against Afghanistan. Although he faced an unusual setback in the initial One Day International (ODI), where he couldn't manage any runs, Babar made a remarkable comeback with back-to-back fifties in subsequent matches. His resilience was evident during the second ODI, where he constructed a crucial 118-run partnership with Imam-ul-Haq, setting the stage for a thrilling last-over showdown.

Babar contributed 53 crucial runs during the run-chase, coupled with Imam's impressive 91, and the collective efforts of lower-order batsmen, ultimately leading Pakistan to a heart-stopping victory with just one ball and one wicket to spare.

Babar Azam's exceptional form extended into the ongoing Asia Cup. In the tournament's opening match against Nepal, he delivered a breathtaking performance, accumulating a stunning 151 runs from a mere 131 balls. This innings catapulted Babar to a historic milestone, as he became the fastest player in cricket history to achieve 19 One Day International (ODI) centuries.

This century also marked his 31st across all formats for Pakistan, placing him in the esteemed company of cricketing legends like Javed Miandad and Saeed Anwar. Babar now ranks just behind Younis Khan (41), Mohammad Yousuf (39), and Inzamam-ul-Haq (35) in terms of centuries scored for Pakistan.

This achievement not only signifies Babar Azam's individual brilliance but also serves as a source of pride for Pakistan, reinforcing its status as a cricketing powerhouse on the global stage.
