Babar Azam Dedicates his PSL 9 Ton to his Mother who Watched him Live for the First Time

Peshawar Zalmi’s skipper and star batsman Babar Azam scored a brilliant unbeaten century against Islamabad United in the 13th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season nine on Monday. He dedicated his knock to his mother, who came to watch him play live for the first time in his career.

Babar Azam smashed 111 runs off 63 balls, hitting 14 fours and 2 sixes, to guide his team to a challenging total of 201 for five in 20 overs. He also became the first Pakistani and the third batsman overall to score 11 centuries in T20 cricket.

Speaking to the media after the match, Babar Azam said that his mother was very happy and enjoyed his innings. He said that she always watches him on TV but this time she proved to be his good luck charm. He said that he was grateful to his mother for her prayers and encouragement.

"My mother came (to watch) for the first time. She’s very happy. She enjoyed it. She always watches at home but she proved to be (a source of) good luck for me. She came to watch the match and I scored a hundred,” he said.

Babar Azam also appreciated his opening partner Saim Ayub, who scored 38 runs off 21 balls, and his bowlers, especially Arif Yaqoob, who took five wickets for 27 runs, including four in one over.

Peshawar Zalmi defended their total by eight runs, as Islamabad United could only manage 193 for nine in their 20 overs. Islamabad United were in a strong position at 166 for three in the 17th over, thanks to a 118-run partnership between Colin Munro (71) and Azam Khan (75).

However, Arif Yaqoob turned the game around with his sensational spell in the 19th over, in which he dismissed Munro, Asif Ali, Shadab Khan and Faheem Ashraf. This was the first time in PSL history that a bowler took four wickets in a single over.

Babar Azam was named the player of the match for his superb century, which helped Peshawar Zalmi register their third consecutive win in the tournament. They are now at the third spot in the points table with six points from five matches. Islamabad United are at the fifth place with two points from four matches.
