Asia Cup 2023: Pakistan Faces Tough Defeat Against India

In a challenging match at the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 round in Colombo on Monday, Pakistan couldn't keep up with India's robust performance, resulting in a loss by 228 runs.

India set a daunting target of 357, which Pakistan, unfortunately, could not chase down, managing only 128-8 in 32 overs. Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf remained absent from the batting due to injuries sustained earlier.

While India's spinner Kuldeep Yadav emerged as a key player, taking five wickets for 25 runs in eight overs, Fakhar Zaman was the highest run-scorer for Pakistan, making 27 runs off 50 balls.

Agha Salman and Iftikhar Ahmed contributed with 23 runs each. Much to the fans' disappointment, skipper Babar Azam could only manage 10 runs before being dismissed by Hardik Pandya.

Earlier, Indian batsmen Virat Kohli and KL Rahul showcased their batting prowess, each scoring a century. Their efforts took India to 356-2 in 50 overs.

Pakistani pacer Haris Rauf, unfortunately, had to leave the field prematurely. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released a statement saying, “He felt discomfort during yesterday's match and was taken for a precautionary MRI, revealing no tear. He is under observation.”

Persistent rain caused interruptions, leading to a continuation of the match on the reserve day. Pakistan had chosen to bowl after winning the toss, and at the rain interruption, India was at 147/2 in 24.1 overs.
