3 Easy Steps to Apply for the Chinese Govt’s Scholarships (2024-25) For Pakistani Students

Chinese Govertment offers research and study opportunities for Pakistani students and scholars in various Chinese universities under the China Scholarship Council (CSC) program. Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has been designated as the agency for the academic year 2024-25. The scholarships cover a wide range of academic disciplines and levels, including undergraduate, graduate, PhD, and exchange programs.

This program covers tuition fees, accommodation, living allowance, medical insurance, and airfare for the selected candidates. It is open for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs in science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, economics, legal studies, management, education, history, literature, philosophy, and fine arts.

The scholarship program is jointly administered by the Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC), the Ministry of Education of China, and the HEC of Pakistan. The HEC is the nominating agency for the Pakistani candidates and is responsible for screening and recommending the eligible applicants to the CSC.

Here is a detailed guide on how to apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship Program 2024-25 through HEC.

Step 1: Check Your Eligibility

Before starting the application process, you have to meet the basic eligibility criteria for the scholarship program.

  • You must be a Pakistani citizen or an AJK national.
  • You must have a valid passport.
  • You must have a good academic record and research potential.
  • You must have a valid HAT or USAT score (score obtained after January 01, 2023). The minimum score required is 50 out of 100. You can register for the HAT or USAT test at https://etc.hec.gov.pk/
  • You must meet the age limit for the program you are applying for. The age limit for undergraduate program is 25 years, for master’s program is 35 years, and for doctoral program is 40 years.

Step 2: Fill and Submit Your Online Application on HEC Portal

The first step of your application is to fill and submit your online application on the HEC portal. You need to follow these steps:

  • Visit the HEC portal at http://scholarship.hec.gov.pk/ and register yourself by creating an account and filling your profile.
  • Select “Learning Opportunities Abroad” and choose the Chinese Government Scholarship Program 2024-25.
  • Fill in the online application form with your personal, academic, and contact information. Make sure that all the information you provide is complete, true, and correct.
  • Upload the required documents, such as your passport, academic transcripts, degrees, certificates, research proposal, recommendation letters, etc. You can find the list of required documents at https://www.hec.gov.pk/english/scholarshipsgrants/lao/CGSP/Pages/Required-Documents.aspx
  • Submit your online application and get a printed copy of it. Sign the printed copy and retain it with yourself. You do not need to send the hard copy of the application to HEC at this stage.
  • The deadline to submit your online application on the HEC portal is Thursday, December 28, 2023 (23:59 PM Pakistan Standard Time). You are advised to complete and submit your application as soon as possible, as the online application system will be very busy in the days leading up to the application deadline.

Step 3: Fill and Submit Your Online Application on CSC Portal

The second step of your application is to fill and submit your online application on the CSC portal. You need to follow these steps:

  • Visit the CSC portal at http://www.campuschina.org or https://www.csc.edu.cn/ and register yourself by creating an account and filling your profile.
  • Select “Chinese Government Scholarship” and choose the program type “A” and the agency number “5861”. The agency number is the code of the HEC of Pakistan.
  • Fill in the online application form with your personal, academic, and contact information. Make sure that all the information you provide is consistent with the information you provided on the HEC portal.
  • Upload the required documents, such as your passport, academic transcripts, degrees, certificates, research proposal, recommendation letters, etc. You can find the list of required documents at https://www.hec.gov.pk/english/scholarshipsgrants/lao/CGSP/Pages/Required-Documents.aspx

Step 4: Wait for the Selection and Notification

After you have submitted your online applications on both the HEC and CSC portals, you need to wait for the selection and notification process. The process is as follows:

  • The HEC will review and shortlist the eligible applicants based on their academic merit, HAT or USAT score, language proficiency, research proposal, and recommendation letters. The HEC will also conduct interviews for the shortlisted applicants.
  • The HEC will send the list of recommended applicants to the CSC for final approval. The CSC will review and select the final candidates based on the quota allocated to Pakistan and the availability of the programs and universities.
  • The CSC will send the admission letters and visa application forms to the successful candidates through the HEC. The HEC will inform the candidates about the results and the procedures to follow.
  • The candidates will need to apply for the Chinese visa at the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in Pakistan with the admission letter and visa application form. The candidates will also need to undergo a physical examination and provide a health certificate.
  • The candidates will need to confirm their acceptance of the scholarship and the university placement with the HEC and the CSC. The candidates will also need to book their air tickets and inform the HEC and the CSC about their travel arrangements.
  • The candidates will need to arrive in China before the registration deadline of the university and report to the university and the CSC. The candidates will also need to participate in the orientation and the language training programs organized by the university and the CSC.
